ABOUT EVE
Hi, my name is Annie. Just to be clear (because this sometimes causes confusion), it's definitely Annie, not Eve. My lovely studio, first opened in May 2014, is Eve.
Where it all began
One day, some years ago, I was sitting in a cafe and I started jotting down an idea I was dreaming up. The first thing I wrote was, 'A place for women...'
And so began the journey of bringing Eve Studio to life.
Eve is all about recognising the best in yourself, connecting with other women, and building your health and wellbeing. I believe that every woman (well, every person, for that matter) has a precious, unique contribution to make in life, and that taking care of our physical and mental health is essential for us to be all that we can.
I used to pay for a gym membership, a yoga studio membership, and regular casual classes at a dance studio. I found that, in the end, I didn't feel completely connected with any of these places AND I was spending a whole lot of money to keep the various aspects of my health and fitness routine happening.
And I thought, why can't I have all these things in one place? A place where I can choose, week-by-week or day-by-day what kind of class I feel like doing. A place where, on the days I want to crank up my heart rate and break a serious sweat, I can do that, and on the days I need to show myself some TLC and relax, I can do that too. And a place where I might even actually get to know some other women, and feel a sense of community. I thought, surely, I wasn't asking too much. But as I looked around, I couldn't find anywhere quite like it.
And so, I created Eve.
We opened the doors to our sweet first space in Thornbury in May 2014. It was little and cosy and homely, and the perfect place for our new community to blossom. After three years we had outgrown that first home, and we relocated to Preston. And early this year (2019) we opened another studio in Brunswick.
Our studios are beautiful, creative, relaxed environments, a far cry from the pounding noise, blaring TVs, and rows of machines found in many gyms. A lot of love has gone into the design of each space, and you'll find lots of vintage furniture, reclaimed timber doors, and little touches that help make you feel at home. There's always herbal tea and some mixed nuts for you to help yourself to before or after class.
At Eve, you are welcomed as you are. We see the best in you, and hope you'll see it too. We have an amazing team of qualified, experienced and caring instructors who truly want to help you feel great and achieve your goals. They are all unique, inspiring and fascinating women who bring their individual passion and flavour to the studio. (Honestly, I'm a little bit in love with each one of them! You will be too.)
I'm thrilled to have the Eve Wellness Collective at both of our studio spaces. This is a group of highly skilled practitioners supporting women's health in their various modalities. I love that Evies (that's the women who come to Eve) have access to these services offered by such wonderful women, all under the one roof.
So why Eve?
I'm regularly asked what's behind the name 'Eve'. Well, apart from being a beautiful name, the name Eve represents the original woman. There's something primal, and yet feminine about the name. To me, Eve is natural, fierce, and radiantly feminine.
Our team would love to welcome you to Eve. Feel free to contact us or give us a call at any time if you have any questions or would like to arrange to visit us to get a feel for the space.
Otherwise, just take the plunge, book in for a class, and we'll see you at the studio soon!
I look forward to meeting you soon!

FAQs
Is Eve for women only?
Eve is for women and non-binary people. To read more about this, click here.
We believe in the very best of sisterhood, recognising the powerful support women can be for one another, and we seek to harness this quality at Eve. Many women find that they prefer to exercise in a space without men. For some of our members, the fact that they attend a women-only studio is merely incidental. For others, it’s important. Whether that’s driven by a need to feel safe, wanting to avoid the male-gaze,a desire for training and instruction specific to the female anatomy and experience, or the appeal of making positive connections with other women, it’s something that many value. In fact, some of our members say that they were surprised by how much they loved being in a space just for women.
Our team are passionate about women's wellness, and have the knowledge and experience to support each, individual woman to move in a way that works for her.
Can I go to both studios?
Absolutely! All of our memberships and passes can be used at both our Preston and Brunswick studios.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in. Leggings or trackies and a singlet will do the trick.
Yoga, pilates and barre classes are taken with bare feet.
You may like to bring in a warm layer and socks for the end of yoga class.
For fitness and dance classes, wear supportive shoes like runners. A sports bra is also a good idea!
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring along your water bottle, and consider bringing a sweat towel.
We have all equipment needed for any of our classes. If you'd prefer to bring your own (for instance, yoga mat, or boxing gloves), you're more than welcome to do so.
We provide shelves and some lockers for you to leave your personal belongings. The door is locked during class, but we recommend that you leave valuables at home as we can't take responsibility for any missing items.
Please don't bring your mobile phone into class with you.
I'm a beginner. Will I be ok?
Everybody's got to start somewhere, and all of our classes accommodate beginners. No matter how unfit, inflexible or uncoordinated you may be, you're welcome here, and our team will support you to participate in class at a level that suits you. If you need to rest during class, go for it! We encourage you to listen to your body and do what feels best for you.
If you haven't exercised in a long time, or if you have any injuries or illnesses that may impact your ability to participate, check with your doctor before you come along.
If you'd like some help choosing the best classes to get you started, please get in touch.
What if I'm pregnant or have recently given birth?
Well first of all, congratulations!
Please make sure you let us know if you are pregnant or have given birth (vaginal or caesarean) in the last 12 months, and be sure to discuss what exercise is okay for you with your GP. Some exercises may be unsuitable or will need to be modified at different stages of your pregnancy or following birth.
While our teachers can give you some general information and guidance, they are unable to offer medical advice, so please make sure you discuss any exercise routine you're planning to undertake with your doctor.
Check out our timetable for prenatal, post-natal and Move with Mini classes.
Do you have showers?
Yes! We have lovely showers for you to use at both our Preston and Brunswick studio. Bring your own towel. Please try to keep showers brief, to save water, and to allow everyone who needs to use the showers plenty of time to do so.
Is there any parking?
We don't have onsite parking available at either studio, but there's plenty of parking in the area. Do make sure you check signs for any restrictions. The small car park at our Preston studio is reserved for team and Wellness Co. appointments.
Get more info on transport and parking at the Preston studio or the Brunswick studio
Do I need to book in?
Yes, we definitely recommend that you book on our website or using the Eve Studio App.
This way, you know your spot in the class is secure, and it also allows us to notify you if there are any changes or cancellations. If you like to live on the edge, you can take your chances and just show up for a class. If there's space, we'll be more than happy for you to join in.
Our App is the easiest way to stay on top of your bookings, cancellations and purchases. It's like having Eve in your pocket!

Do I have to pay separately for different types of classes?
Nope. Your membership or pass can be used for any of our classes. So that means you have access to yoga, strength & fitness, pilates, barre, pre & post -natal classes, and more, with instructors who are specialists in their fields. This is one of the unique (and very excellent) aspects of Eve's approach. If you start adding up what it would cost to have separate memberships at a yoga, studio, a gym, as well as pilates, barre and dance studios, you'll see what amazing value our memberships and passes are.
We take this approach, not only to be generous, but because we recognise that your needs change from day to day, week to week, and in different life stages. Women are cyclical beings, and there are times when our energy is high and we may opt for a heart-pumping fitness, dance or vinyasa yoga class. At other times, it's better to focus on slow, controlled movement, or to prioritise relaxation. Eve has been set up to support you through the ebbs and flows of life, and to help keep you moving in whatever way is best for you right now.
Don't hesitate to contact us if you'd like some help working out which of our classes are best suited to your needs.
Do your class timetables change?
Yep, our timetables will change from time to time, as we move with the seasons, and respond to the needs of the women in our community. In general, we change our timetable twice per year, roughly around May and November.
If you've got a paper timetable, it's still a good idea to check that your class is on, on our App or website. If you book in, you know the class is definitely happening (or you'll be notified if anything changes).
Please feel free to contact us if you have any ideas or suggestions for changes to future timetables.

From time to time, we will seek applications for instructors to join our team.

Or even better, come in for a class and say hi, so we can put a face to your name!
